いよいよ明日はクリスマス！
我が家の小さなクリスマスツリーの下はプレゼントでいっぱいになってきました。
棚の上もクリスマスカードでいっぱいです！
日本ではクリスマスはロマンチックな雰囲気が多いですが、イギリスでは家族が集まるお正月のような雰囲気です。
今日はLeeにイギリスでどんなクリスマスを過ごしてきたかインタビューをしていきたいと思います！

How do you celebrate Christmas at home in England?
イギリスの実家ではどのようにクリスマスを過ごしてますか？
My family put up decorations around the living room and conservatory.
As for the tree, my parents usually go to a Christmas tree farm and buy a real one there. My dad puts it in the corner of the living room and my mum decorates it.
On Christmas Eve, we usually eat a light meal or some mince pies (so that we're able to eat a large Christmas dinner the next day!) and listen to some carols on the TV in the evening. My mum likes to watch Carols from King's College.
Around 11PM, the local church begins to ring its bells to welcome people to Midnight Mass. Sometimes we can hear it from our house.
私の家族はリビングやコンサバトリー(温室)にクリスマスの飾り付けをします。
ツリーは両親がたいていクリスマスツリーファームへ行き、本物のツリーを買ってきます。
父がそのツリーをリビングの隅に置き、母が飾り付けをします。
クリスマス・イブには、軽い食事やミンスパイなどを食べて(次の日クリスマスディナーをたくさん食べられるように)、夜にテレビでキャロルを聴きます。母はKing's Collegeのキャロルが好きです。
１１時頃になると、地元の教会が真夜中のミサを知らせるベルを鳴らし始めます。
時々その音が聞こえることがあります。
Do your relatives come over?
クリスマスの日には親戚も訪ねて来ますか？
Yes, they do, but not so much these days. In my childhood, I often went to my grandparents' houses on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. But these days my aunts and uncles pop over for just a few hours on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day.
はい、でも最近はあまり来なくなりました。私が子供の頃は、クリスマス当日とボクシングデイ(12/26)に祖父母の家へ行きました。ただ最近は、叔父や叔母がクリスマスイブやボクシングデイに数時間だけ立ち寄ります。
What's in a Christmas dinner?
クリスマスディナーはどんな物を食べますか？
Everyone will have their own version of Christmas dinner. Not everyone has meat; some people have fish or a vegetarian dish.
At my house, Christmas dinner is roast turkey with stuffing, pigs in blankets, vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy.
It takes quite a while to roast a whole turkey. My mum begins to prepare it on Christmas Eve.
皆それぞれのクリスマスディナーがあります。皆がお肉を食べるのではなく、魚だったり、ベジタリアン用のものもあるでしょう。私の家では、クリスマスディナーはローストターキーとスタッフィン、ピッグインブランケット(ソーセージをベーコンで巻いたもの)、ローストした野菜にじゃがいも、ヨークシャープディングとグレービーソースです。ターキーを一羽丸ごとローストするのはかなり時間がかかるので、母はクリスマスイブから準備を始めます。

Do you eat desserts?
デザートは食べますか？
Yes, a lot! My mum always bakes mince pies, which we eat over the Christmas period, and a trifle, which we usually eat on Boxing Day.
We eat my aunt's Christmas Pudding after Christmas Dinner, which my dad pours flaming brandy on to.
When I'm at home for Christmas I like to make a chocolate Yule log. But with so many other desserts in the fridge or freezer, its often unnecessary!
はい、たくさん食べます！母はいつもクリスマスの期間に食べる分のミンスパイを焼き、ボクシングデイにはたいていトライフルを食べます。私たちはクリスマスディナーの後に叔母の作ったクリスマスプディングを食べます。クリスマスプディングには父がブランデーをかけ、フランベするんですよ。私がクリスマスに実家にいるときは、チョコレートユーログ(ブッシュドノエルのようなケーキ)を作ることが好きです。でも、本当にたくさんのデザートが冷蔵庫や冷凍庫につまっているので私のユーログは必要ないんですけどね！

Each year it gets a little harder to find the perfect presents!
年々家族みんなにぴったりのプレゼントを見つけるのが大変になってきています！
Are there any Christmas lights in your hometown?
イルミネーションをみますか？
Sometimes, my hometown has illuminated Christmas decorations hanging from the street lights, usually along the main road only.
My parents put up lights along the roof and in front of the entrance of their house, and some other families do, too.
時々、私の地元では通りにクリスマスのイルミネーションが飾られたりしますが、たいていメインロードのみです。両親は家の玄関や屋根にライトを飾りますし、他の家族も同じようにしています。

食べ物の話がたくさん出てきますが、pigs in blankets なんて面白い名前だと思いませんか？ pig=ぶた、blanket=ブランケット・・・ブランケットに包まれたぶたさん・・・
